Frequently Asked Questions
Learn how AIO Radar measures and improves your site's AI readiness.
How do you calculate the AI Readiness Score?
Our AI Readiness metrics are based on informed reasoning about how Large Language Models (LLMs) process and retrieve content. We track 8 independent metrics across 4 categories:
Core Coverage Metrics
- Schema Coverage - Percentage of pages with proper Schema.org structured data markup
- Summary Coverage - Percentage of pages with AI-ready content summaries
- Alt Text Coverage - Percentage of images with descriptive alt text
- LLM.txt Status - Whether your site has deployed an LLM.txt file for AI crawlers
Extended Metrics
- FAQ Coverage - Percentage of pages with FAQ structured content (maps directly to how users query LLMs)
- Entity Clarity Score - How clearly your business entities are defined in structured data
- Semantic Clarity Score - Content readability and heading structure quality
- Authority Score - Signals of trustworthiness (about page, author bios, contact info, etc.)
Each metric is calculated as a percentage (0-100%) or weighted score. Coverage metrics use the formula: (items with feature / total items) x 100
Is this based on research or just made up?
Our metrics are based on informed reasoning about how LLMs process content, drawing from:
- Schema.org - The documented purpose of structured data is machine-readable content, which LLMs are trained to recognize
- llms.txt specification - An emerging community standard for AI crawlers
- Accessibility principles - Alt text helps multimodal models understand images
- Content clarity research - Readability scores correlate with how accurately LLMs can cite content
We have designed the system to collect outcome data (visibility test results) so we can empirically validate and refine these metrics over time. This is intellectually honest MVP methodology: start with reasonable hypotheses, measure outcomes, iterate with evidence.
How is Entity Clarity Score calculated?
The Entity Clarity Score measures how well your business entities are defined in structured data. Points are awarded for:
- Organization/LocalBusiness schema: +30 points
- Address data present: +25 points
- Product schema present: +25 points
- Contact info present: +20 points
Why this matters: LLMs need to clearly identify who you are, where you are, and what you offer to accurately recommend your business in relevant queries.
How is Authority Score calculated?
The Authority Score measures signals of trustworthiness and expertise. Points are awarded for:
- About page: +15 points
- Contact page: +15 points
- Author bios on content: +20 points
- Author schema markup: +15 points
- Privacy policy: +10 points
- Physical address displayed: +15 points
- Team/Staff page: +10 points
Why this matters: To be cited as a source, LLMs need to see signals that your site is authoritative and trustworthy. These trust signals help establish credibility.
How is Semantic Clarity Score calculated?
The Semantic Clarity Score combines two factors:
- Readability score (60% weight): Based on standard readability metrics like Flesch-Kincaid
- Heading structure (40% weight): Percentage of pages with clear H1-H6 hierarchy
Why this matters: Clear, well-structured content gets cited more accurately by LLMs. Content that is easy to parse has a better chance of being correctly understood and recommended.
Why does FAQ content matter for AI?
FAQ content is particularly valuable for AI visibility because:
- The Q&A format maps directly to how users query LLMs
- FAQ schema markup (FAQPage) is explicitly designed for machine consumption
- Questions anticipate user intent, making content more likely to match AI queries
- Structured Q&A provides clear, extractable answers
We measure FAQ Coverage as the percentage of your pages that have either FAQ schema markup or FAQ block content.
What is LLM.txt?
LLM.txt is an emerging standard (similar to robots.txt) that helps AI systems understand your site. It provides:
- A summary of what your site/business is about
- Key information AI should know when discussing your brand
- Links to important pages and resources
While still a community proposal without formal backing, early adoption positions your site for AI crawlers that respect this format. We track whether your LLM.txt is: not found, pending, generated, deployed, or outdated.
Will there be a single overall Readiness Score?
Currently we display individual metrics rather than a single composite score. Here is why:
- Actionability: "Your alt text is at 40%" is more actionable than "you are 67% ready"
- Honesty: A weighted composite implies we know relative importance - we do not yet have the data
- Transparency: You can see exactly where to focus your efforts
As we collect more visibility test data, we plan to analyze which metrics actually correlate with AI mentions. At that point, we may introduce a data-backed composite score with empirically validated weights.
How will you validate these metrics work?
Our validation approach:
- Collect outcome data: Track visibility test results (brand mentions) alongside snapshot metrics
- Correlation analysis: After 3-6 months, analyze which metrics correlate with actual AI visibility
- Iterate: Update weights and potentially add/remove metrics based on evidence
- Transparency: Share findings with users so you understand what actually works
This iterative, evidence-based approach ensures our recommendations improve over time based on real-world results, not just theory.
